Conservation of the Moken  culture

So that Moken youth do not lose their cultural heritage, they will be taught about the history and practical side of Moken art and cultural performances such music and dance. Most Moken youth already know some traditional Moken dances, music and art however what they know is only a fraction of their traditional cultural heritage. Community leaders are concerned that as Moken elders are dying out much of the cultural knowledge and heritage that they hold will not be passed on younger Moken generations. Moken community members would like to have this knowledge passed on before it is lost forever.

On Haad Sai Dam Island Ranong Thailand

Protection of 400 acres of forest and 400 marine acres for 10 years.

Forest covers most of this beautiful island in Ranong Islands National Park. It is full of economically valuable trees, including teak, ironwood, and eaglewood, and villagers use forest herbs and tuber crops for food and medicine.

The forest is also alive with endangered wildlife. The Sunda pangolin, one of the most trafficked mammals in Asia, is just one step away from being classified extinct in the wild. So is the great hornbill, one of three hornbill species left on the island. (People drove other species of these showy birds extinct by deforestation and hunting.
